Easter Events

It was kind of a bummer celebrating Easter without Derek, but it was harder on him I think than it was on us. Thankfully, Easter means more to our family than just spending time with family and hiding plastic eggs. Jackson is beginning to understand why we celebrate Easter and that really reminded me of what’s really important!

As I got out this sticker activity thing that tells the story of Easter, Jackson pointed to the cross and said, “I know that! We talked about that at MOPS!” I was so proud. And he told me that the stone was rolled away and that the angel was there. That sure made this Mommy proud.

But of course, we still had an Easter Egg hunt for the kids. And we did this before Derek left. It worked out perfectly—the weather was wonderful and it was good practice before they were bombarded by hoards of kids at our church egg hunt.

Once Belle figured out there was candy inside the egg, she quit caring about finding more eggs and spent her time trying to open the few eggs she already had in her basket.

These guys were far too excited about their eggs and candy to hold still and look at me for even a second for me to take a picture!

Okay, I got Jackson to cooperate after Belle got up, but this is the best smile I got. I love this goofy boy! And I want to make sure to document that Jackson refers to the activity of finding Easter eggs as “Easter Egg Hunking”. That cracks me up.SAM_8283

I spent the holiday up at my parents house. Both of my sisters were in town and it was nice to go to church with them.DSC05364

The kids looked so good in their Easter outfits. Jackson looked so, so handsome. I am going to have to have him wear the outfit again soon so I can get more pictures! He was a little stud muffin. Belle, on the other hand, loves to pose for the camera. She doesn’t hold still for long, but she loves the attention!

Belle immediately started snuggling her stuffed animal and Jackson was super excited about his toy gun {which is staying at Grammy’s house!!}DSC05404   DSC05408

Gram Gram and Grandma Dryer drove down from Trenton for lunch, which was delicious. I had the responsibility of cooking the ham and ya know, it was pretty tasty if I do say so myself. {okay, it was a precooked ham and everything, but I’m still taking credit.}

Belle and Aunt Wa-wa. Jackson spent most of the day with Ashley and her boyfriend, Zach. Whenever Zach is around, Jackson becomes his little shadow.

And Aunt Wa-Wa snapped some super cute pictures of my kiddos.DSC05447

Is this little girl not the most precious little thing ever!? This picture just makes me want to pick her up and give her lots of cuddles and kisses!!DSC05433

We didn’t get around to dying Easter eggs until today. Jackson had lots of fun. He wasn’t a fan of waiting while the eggs soaked for a bit, but he sure loved switching colors!

The finished eggs! Too bad Jackson doesn’t like boiled eggs, but Belle sure does! 2 (2)
Okay, so sorry for massive amount of photos in this post! Derek misses the kids so I wanted to make sure he had plenty of picture to hold him over until next Sunday. Hope you and your family had a blessed Easter!

Easter Fun

We had lots of Easter fun this year! This post is going to be all practically all pictures because it's simply all I have time for and I don't want to put it off because I just know I will never get to it otherwise!

Dying eggs

My new favorite picture of this guy! Check out that ornery smile!

His fingers were blue for several days!

Family Dinner
My very first family dinner! I had hopes of a nice table cloth, centerpiece, cute name cards- something all super cute... but yeah, that totally didn't happen. Maybe next time, right!?
*thanks to Laura for taking the picture!!*

Family Easter Egg Hunt
"There's one!"

He couldn't move onto the next egg before eating the chocolate candy (he didn't mind putting the jelly bean filled eggs in the basket).

Belle's first Easter, her first holiday actually!

Easter

What a wonderful Easter weekend. We started the weekend by heading up to my parents house on Friday evening. Mom made enchiladas, we hid eggs for Jackson's Easter egg hunt, and we played a game of Rummikub. Derek says he won, but he also cheated so that the game could end and we could get Jackson home to bed. The competitive part of me was SO annoyed, but the mom part knew that it was probably for the best.

Mom showing Jackson how the whole Easter Egg Hunt works
Ooh, I found one!
He had to open each egg as he found it and eat the treat inside before moving on to the other eggs!
Isn't he handsome?

We participated in our church Easter egg hunt on Saturday. Jackson didn't sit still for 2 seconds during the telling of the Easter story. Oh well, maybe next year (hopefully!). Jackson did find some eggs- though they were all out on the kiddie playground, so he was really interested in playing rather than finding silly eggs.

Enjoying his hotdog and chips!

Of course he was super handsome for church on Sunday morning. Did I mention I got his entire outfit for $3 at Penny's after Christmas? What a steal!

He was in no mood to smile for the camera all day-stinker.

We drove up to Richmond for lunch to hang out with Derek's grandma and side of the family. Jackson had so much fun looking up the boys that were just a little bit older and he even got his turn to try out some t-ball!

Opening up his Easter goodies from Great-Grandma. He definitely loved the Peeps!

We spent the rest of the day with family and friends- precisely what makes holidays so great. What a great way to celebrate the Lord's day.

Just a quick bit more: As most of you know, Derek and I teach the 4-5th graders at our church and our class yesterday morning was just great. Since most of the students in our class attend the Christian school, sometimes it can be a daunting task to teach them about the Bible since they probably know more than I do. But yesterday, we were really able to talk not about the specifics of how Christ was crucified and the details of his resurrection-- we got to discuss why it is so important to celebrate this holiday, how this is story is the foundation of what we believe. We looked up verses and the kids worked on how they can share this news with others! I love getting in great discussions with these 10 and 11-year-olds who can be such great thinkers and doers when given the opportunity. I love being their teacher- though they have a lot to teach me as well!

My Handsome Fella

I have never been so in love with how a picture turned out than this. Seriously, I am not sure this kid could be any cuter. How amazing is it that he put the hat on by himself and covered up his boo boo? And look at his personality shine through. I realize that perhaps I am a bit biased, but there is no denying that this kid is a handsome fella!
